  17. Beta version 0.12 of NCSA Mosaic for the X Window System, a networked
  18. information systems and World Wide Web browser, is hereby released:

  26. This release of NCSA Mosaic is known to compile on the following
  27. platforms:

  29.   SGI (IRIX 4.0.2) 
  30.   IBM (AIX 3.2)
  31.   Sun 4 (SunOS 4.1.2 with stock X11R4 and Motif 1.1 and GCC).
  32.   DEC Ultrix.
  33.  
  34. More binaries will be supplied as I am able to find other
  35. Motif-configured platforms to use.  (Contributions of working
  36. binaries, or development systems, are welcome.)  Documentation is
  37. available online.

  39. Changes since 0.11 include:

  41.  o Files retrieved via binary transfer mode now get a file selection box
  42.    for user-provided filename. 
  43.  o Inlined image widths are now taken into account when formatting
  44.    text & images together. 
  45.  o Fixed trigger of server bug on some systems wrt freeing color cells. 
  46.  o Inlined images work on 24-bit TrueColor servers now. 
  47.  o GUI interface for mailing hotlist and window history lists. 
  48.  o Support for <ol> (numbered lists). 
  49.  o Better support for nested description lists. 
  50.  o Support for <tt>, <b>, <i>, <em>, <strong>, <code>, <samp>,
  51.    <kbd>, <var>, and corresponding resources italicFont, boldFont, and
  52.    fixedFont. 
  53.  o Better 8-bit cleanliness. 
  54.  o Bug with inlined images as anchors at end of documents fixed. 
  55.  o Compact description lists: <dl compact> causes first line of <dd>
  56.    text to jump up on same line with <dt> if room exists. 
  57.  o SGML representations of 8-bit ISO8859 characters now work. 
  58.  o Fixed bugs with weird Lucida font metrics on DEC Alpha and a few
  59.    other servers. 
  60.  o Fixed coredump triggered by <li>'s outside of a list. 
  61.  o Fixed coredumps on malformed URL's like telnet:machine.name. 
  62.  o Fixed coredumps on malformed URL's like
  63.    gopher:/gopher.uiuc.edu/. 
  64.  o Various document types returned via WAIS searches are now
  65.    detected (by extension only) and forked to viewers as appropriate. 
  66.  o Fixed minor bug with disappearing whitespace. 
  67.  o Fixed bug with extraneous newlines in description lists in very
  68.    narrow windows. 
  69.  o Fixed bug with erroneous description elements causing text to fall
  70.    off the left side of the screen. 
  71.  o Audio annotations on HP systems with audio hardware work now. 
  72.  o Default SGI audio annotation quality is lower now, to decrease disk
  73.    space usage. 
  74.  o SCO Open Desktop support. 
  75.  o Harris Nighthawk support. 
  76.  o AIX 3.2 support for reading local directories. 
  77.  o Minor bugfixes and cleanups.
